KCB will end the calendar year top of the Kenya Cup after defeating Kisumu RFC 45-8 at the Lions Den in Ruaraka on Saturday 15 December 2012.

Second row Brian Sagara scored KCB’s opening try, a pushover try that was converted by former Kisumu player Jacob Ojee for a 7-0 lead. Winger Peter Kilonzo put the bankers 12-0 up, scoring an unconverted try from open play before Kenyan international scrum half Felix Wanjala reacted quickest to a spilled Kisumu ball in the try box,grounding the ball with Kenya Sevens international Fabian Olando converting for a 19-0 lead. Essau Otieno’s penalty for Kisumu reduced the deficit to 19-3 heading into the breather.

The visitors started brightly upon resumption,big Newman Opiyo going over from a maul, his unconverted try taking the score to 19-8.

KCB Head Coach Curtis Aluoch threw on Oliver Mang’eni, Xavier Makuba and Peter Mutai for Anthony Ogot, Hastings Nyariki and Wanjala and they immediately changed the complexion of what had been a languid game of rugby to that point.

They asserted themselves at the breakdown with Mutai pulling the strings,his distribution bringing his midfielders more into the match. Receiving the ball in his own half, fullback Ojee stepped past three Kisumu players,scoring the bonus point try with Olando converting for a 26-8 KCB lead.Ojee landed his brace with an unconverted try that saw KCB go 31-8 up.

Olando scored and converted his try after a quickly taken penalty before Kenya prop Curtis Lilako scored at the death with Bonab Were converting for the 45-8 result.

KCB Cubs defeated Kisumu 43-0 in the Eric Shirley Shield fixture.
