KCB scored five tries to overcome hosts Mwamba 29-10 in their Kenya Cup clash played at the Nairobi Railway Club on Saturday afternoon.

Hezbon Mataya and Philem Kidakwa scored unconverted tries for the hosts while Calvins Biko with two tries, Bryan Omondi with one try tallied with Edwin Kiprono's two conversions to see the visiting Lions lead 19-10 at the interval.

Mwamba started the second half piling pressure on their visitors but were unable to turn their domination into points.

The turning point in the game came when KCB won a penalty deep inside their own half and elected to find touch. Anthony Ogot kicked the ball out deep in the Mwamba half and their subsequent dominance of the second half started here. They camped in the Mwamba half but were unable to score.

With Ogot out for ten minutes after being yellow carded for inappropriate play, the KCB backs ran the ball and young winger Dedan Omondi reclaimed the ball after beating his opponent with a simple chip and chase to touch down at the corner flag. Kiprono missed the conversion as the Lions led 24-10.

Omondi's try brought the roar back to the Lions who were rewarded with their fifth try when the cooled down Ogot scored after replacement center Oscar Mango had asked questions of the Mwamba midfield. Kiprono missed this conversion as the game ended 29-10 to the Lions.

Earlier, KCB II beat Mwamba II 24-0.
