Action from a previous KCB-Nakuru encounter
The big talking “Wanyore” of Nakuru RFC are aiming to beat the KCB Lions in Nakuru on Saturday after their confidence boosting start to the 2008 Kenya Cup League. The Lions will most probably field a majority of the players who started the 67-7 and 43-3 routs of Strathmore and Mombasa but the “Wanyore” – their confidence soaring after winning their first three games against Nondies, Quins and Strathmore – sense that a repeat of their stunning 9-8 win over the same opposition in last year’s Kenya Cup fixture at the same venue isn’t too far out.

The MC at the Great Rift Ten A Side tournament held in Nakuru this past weekend was sure that they have a chance of beating the Lions. While the Nakuru camp are full of confidence, they could easily allow complacency to set in.

One thing is certain though, while Nakuru have made a good start to the campaign, they must be wary of an equally combative KCB side who will surely be out to avenge last season’s defeat in Nakuru. Matches between these two sides are known to be fiercely contested, sometimes ending in scuffles as witnessed during last season’s return fixture at the Lions Den that ended in several fist fights, a concussed Nakuru player, and a narrow 12-0 win for KCB.

There is no question of KCB players being any less physical against Nakuru despite the furore caused following their 67-7 drubbing of Strathmore and being shown a red and yellow card in the Ten A Side semi final against Impala.

KCB players will not back off, that’s not the way they play rugby. They will be going out there to compete for every ball, whether it be on the ground or in the air. Bill Githinji names his side on Thursday and we should expect a bruising battle ahead. My head and heart tell me that KCB will prevail in this one.
