New Job – New Challenge – Growing Rugby in Africa

Rugby is one of the world’s most popular and fastest growing sports. The world governing body is the International Rugby Board (IRB), which is based in Dublin, Ireland. With over 115 national unions in membership, it is responsible for the governance, administration and development of Rugby worldwide, as well as the staging and management of Rugby World Cup and other major tournaments.

Following a strategic review of the Rugby Services Department, a new role has been established to oversee the IRB’s Rugby programmes in Africa. Based in the Region, the Regional General Manager will report to the Head of Rugby Services in Dublin and will have a close working relationship with the Regional Association (CAR).

The role involves building a Regional infrastructure to service Rugby Unions within the Region ensuring that Rugby grows in accordance with the Regional and Union strategic plans that will be facilitated by the Regional General Manager.

The Regional General Manager will also ensure that IRB programmes are delivered effectively in terms of:
Training and Development activities in the Region.
High Performance initiatives to increase competitiveness in world Rugby.
Developing and managing Rugby tournaments for the Region.
Special Project initiatives

The successful applicant will be a self starter having had experience in a general management role and will be a relationship builder who can facilitate activity through volunteers. There will be strong emphasis on planning, budgeting and monitoring with an ability to facilitate planning processes in others. Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to deal with cultural diversity are a must. An in depth knowledge of Rugby will be a distinct advantage. Fluency in French would also be advantageous
